Toolkit: social and behaviour change to address stigma and discrimination towards children and youth with disabilities
UNICEF developed a toolkit consisting of eight modules to tackle social norms and behaviours that constitute barriers to the inclusion of children and youth with disabilities. The toolkit offers practical support to a range of stakeholders for designing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating social and behaviour change interventions. Report: engaging young people with disabilities in decision-making |

The latest report in the “Believe in Better” series of the Youth 2030 initiative maps the global prevalence and key socio-demographic characteristics of young people with disabilities based on data from 46 countries (including Ghana, Kenya, Mozambique, South Sudan and Cambodia). It analyses how young people with disabilities contribute to decision-making processes, what challenges and barriers to participation they face and how these can be overcome to ensure meaningful engagement. Questionnaire: improving the collection of disability data of school-aged children
UNICEF and the Washington Group on Disability Statistics released a Teacher Version of the Child Functioning Module to take advantage of school-based data collections. The questionnaire consists of 20 questions and is designed to identify difficulties in a number of functional domains such as seeing, hearing, mobility fine motor skills, communication, controlling behaviour, relationships, and affect (anxiety and depression). You can access the teacher version here and an additional module with questions on inclusive education.

23 August 2024: Submission on draft general comment No. 27 in children’s rights
The Committee on the Right of the Child is drafting general comment No. 27 on children’s rights to access to justice and effective remedies and is seeking contributions from interested stakeholders to clarify terms, approaches an actions States should take. Review the call for submissions and submit your input by 23 August.
1-5 September 2024: African Conference on Disability |

The African Disability Forum (ADF)
will organise a conference to discuss “Persons with Disabilities in a Post-pandemic World: Redefining Inclusive Development & Humanitarian Agenda in Africa” from September 1-5 in Nairobi. The conference will bring together approximately 200 participants from governments, UN agencies, international organisations, the private sector, and civil society organisations, including Organisations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs). The aim is to collectively outline the priority issues for disability inclusion in Africa and develop an action plan to address the current gaps. This year’s CBR/CBID Africa Conference will be held in Entebbe under the theme of “Advancing Community Based Rehabilitation / Community Based Inclusive Development for a Disability Inclusive Society”. UN Young Talent Pipeline
The second phase of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) Young Talent Pipeline aims to engage young talented individuals to become future leaders across environment, pollution and climate action. This joint partnership initiative between UNEP and UNV has a twin objective:
To deploy the second cohort of 13 young talented individuals in areas related to UNEP's mandate.
To seek candidates from Latin America and the Caribbean, Eastern Europe, Asia-Pacific, and Africa.
