Dear ,

Greetings from Juba. I am delighted to share that South Sudan’s blind football team has achieved a remarkable milestone by winning the African Championship Division 2. This victory brings them one step closer to realising their dream of competing at the Paralympic Games in Los Angeles in 2028.

Our partnership with the team began five years ago, and it has been incredible to witness their progress – not only in terms of athletic performance but also in their commitment to inclusion. You can find the full story in the Web Highlights section of this newsletter.

This edition also features a curated selection of recent reports, upcoming events, and training and funding opportunities, with a particular focus on grassroots and community-based organisations.

As we are approaching the end of 2025, I’d like to wish you a happy festive season and best wishes for 2026.

Kind regards,

Sophia Mohammed

Country Director South Sudan

Funding opportunities

Funding for peacebuilding

The Rapid Response Window (RRW) of the Women’s Peace and Humanitarian Fund provides flexible and urgent funding to women peacebuilders and civil society organisations to strengthen women’s meaningful participation in peace processes. It offers two modalities: Direct Support (up to USD 30K in services, no grant) and Short-Term Grants (up to USD 100K via a partner INGO). Projects last up to six months and must focus on Track 1 or Track 2 peace processes or the implementation/monitoring of peace agreements.

D-Prize Global Competition – funding for poverty solutions

The D-Prize Global Competition provides funding for entrepreneurs who want to start new projects that expand access to proven solutions for poverty in the Global South. These solutions can include things like clean water, health products or education. The focus is on distribution, not creating new inventions – your idea should help deliver existing, effective interventions to people who need them. Selected applicants receive up to USD 20,000 in seed funding as a convertible grant to pilot their idea. The competition is open to individuals and teams worldwide. Deadlines: Early decision: 23 November  2025, regular: 14 December  2025, extension: 4 January 2026 for registered applicants.

Funds for grassroots and community-based organisations

The FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund supports grassroots and community-based organisations expanding access to quality education and sports for children in underserved communities worldwide. Applicants may request general operating or project support for one-year initiatives that directly improve learning conditions, inclusion and child safeguarding. Eligible organisations must be legally registered non-profits serving 500–10,000 individuals and demonstrate financial stability with at least three years of records. Grants must not exceed 50% of the applicant’s annual budget. Application closes on 31 December 2025.

Flexible grant for women-led initiatives

The AfNet Flexible Grant is a funding opportunity designed to support initiatives led by women leaders and organisations dedicated to creating positive change in their communities. The grant provides up to USD 5,000 to empower women.
